Denver— Award Winning filmmaker Darla Rae is producing and directing a new feature film titled “Spirit of Love”, the Mike Glenn story. It was Rae’s work on the award winning films “The Goal” and “Dandy Kids” that caused two coaches from Mike Glenn’s camp for the deaf and hard of hearing to contact Rae. “The Goal” garnered numerous awards around the globe including the International film festivals sanctioned by the IOC (International Olympic Committee) in Milan Italy, and Mumbai India. The film walked away with 5 prestigious awards between the two festivals and a total of 8. “Dandy Kids” an award winning documentary film screened before members of the United States Congress and continues to help families around the world, whose children are diagnosed with a rare brain malformation called Dandy Walker Syndrome. “I think it’s a rare thing that a filmmaker experiences. Sometimes I get calls in the middle of the night from frantic parents asking about this rare diagnosis their child has just received and I’m able to help them”, said Rae.
“Spirit of Love” also written by Rae will be shot primarily in Colorado, with second units in Illinois, and Georgia.
This project is about shattering silence, discrimination, and educating and raising awareness, and honoring a great man who makes a difference in the lives of others. Rae’s company Film It Productions https://film-itproductions.com produces family films that motivate, uplift, encourage, and inspire audiences. Like most projects from Darla Rae and Film It Productions “Spirit of Love” will be one of reaching out into the community to build a team. Darla Rae has a group of very experienced “Key” players on the Production Team, but will also be using this project as an incubator to give experience to people who desire to be a part of a project bigger than themselves.
This project will unite the deaf and hard of hearing communities and hearing community with at risk youth allowing all parties involved to learn the skill set associated with acting, producing, directing, and editing and distributing a film. “Most think its all glamour making films. It’s a lot of fun, but a lot of work as well. Most people don’t really have a handle on the business of filmmaking, and certainly not the grass roots and Truly Indie approach.” said Rae.
In order to be sensitive to the deaf community Rae met with Cliff Moers who is the director of the Colorado Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing who is endorsing the project along with many other key people in the deaf community across the country. Rae said, “Our films message is not one of pity or sympathy but of empowerment”.
